Scope and content

E.P. Thompson has been in the forefront of the resurgence of the European peace movement and these writings are his main contributions of the last two years. They range from the quiet persuasiveness of "Beyond the Cold War" (intended as the Dimbleby Lecture) and the brilliant polemic of "A Courier at Toad Hall" (a review of the Reith Lectures) to the remarkable intellectual change of "Exterminism: The Last Stage of Civilisation". Activists in the peace movement will welcome the bringing together of these speeches and articles, which between them cover the different aspects of nuclear disarmament and East-West politics. The case for linking the campaign for peace with the struggle for freedom in Poland and elsewhere is made convincingly and with passion. As the movement for peace and a "Zero Option" of no nuclear weapons in Europe gathers strength, Thompson is one of those who most eloquently speak for it and articulate his desires. (Klappentext)
