Einzelstück 6 - The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Facts and Figures

In this first impression of the current edition of "The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation : Facts and Figures", the main description of events and developments in the different spheres of Alliance activity covers the period from 1949 to 1988. However, the opportunity has been taken to add to and update relevant sections of the book in order to take account as far as possible of major developments occuring during 1989. The Summit Meeting of the North Atlantic Council in Brussels at the end of May 1989, as well as a number of subsequent developments, are thus included in the Chronicle of Main Events (Chapter 4), in the description of progress in the field of arms control and disarmament (Chapter 11), and in the Chronology (Appendix IV). Developments in Eastern Europe occuring after mid November 1989, end-of-year Ministerial meetings of NATO Foreign and Defence Ministers, and the NATO Summit Meeting held in Brussels on December 4, 1989, are not covered in this edition.
