[…] This annual report by the IHF covers human rights events in the year 2003, based on research by the Helsinki Committees and other independent, nongovernmental groups. Issues covered include, among other things, attacks on human rights defenders; violations of the rights of national or ethnic minorities and minority religions; persecutions of journalists and members of political opposition; restrictions on free expression and the right to association; violations of humanitarian law and accountability for past abuses; torture, ill-treatment and other misconduct by law enforcement officials; and violations of the rights of asylum seekers.
