Scope and content

In eleven tumultous years, they changed the course of American history. From the Montgomery bus boycott to the Little Rock Nine to the Selma-Montgomery march, thousands of ordinary people made up the American civil rights movement. Eyes on the Prize tells the story of those people. From leaders like Martin Luther Kind, Jr., to lesser-known participants like Barbara Rose Johns and Jim Zwerg, each man and woman made the decisions that discrimination was wrong and that something had to be done to stop it. These moving stories and pictures of the first decade of the civil rights movement are a tribute to and a reminder of the people, black and white, who took part in the fight for justice and kept their eyes on the prize of freedom.
