The collapse of the Reykjavik summit meeting was felt nowhere more keenly than in Europe, the most heavily militarized continent in the world. Europeans have no reason to go to war with one another, but the division of their region into blocs has brought with it the deployment of nuclear arsenals, and the danger that conflict might spill back into the European region from any one of numerous "hot spots" around the world.
